SRB26 De som jagar efter en annan gud ska få många sorger. Jag offrar inte deras dryckesoffer av blod, inte heller tar jag deras namn på mina läppar.

SKB De som springer efter (väljer) andra gudar mångdubblar (multiplicerar) sina problem (bedrövelser, sorger, smärtor). Jag vill inte offra drickoffer av blod till dem, eller ta deras namn på mina läppar [svära en ed på deras namn]. [Vers 3-4 är svåröversatta. De heliga skulle kunna syfta på Guds änglar, se Ps 89:6-8, men eftersom de ”är i landet” är det troligare att det handlar om Guds folk eller det religiösa ledarskapet, se Ps 34:10; 2 Krön 35:3. Vers 4 är ännu svårare att översätta. Versen kan beskriva de israeliter som utöver Herren också tillber andra gudar, så kallad synkretism, eller ren avgudadyrkan. Oavsett så är poängen att dessa mångdubblar sina sorger eftersom dessa tyranniska avgudar kräver avskyvärda riter och offer. Det är ironiskt att denna vers om just avgudadyrkan är svårtydd. Det förstärker faktiskt litterärt poängen att avgudadyrkan är något obegripligt i Guds ögon och något vi inte ska ägna oss åt!]
