Říkali: „To bude nějaké nové náboženství.“

Atéňané i lidé, kteří tam přicházeli studovat, byli totiž velice zvědaví a posedlí touhou povědět nebo uslyšet něco nového a neobvyklého. Vzali Pavla mezi sebe, dovedli ho na řečniště zvané Areopag a požádali ho, aby jim pověděl něco více o tom novém učení plném překvapujících myšlenek.

B21 18Debatovali s ním rovněž někteří epikurejští a stoičtí filosofové.
Neb jim o Ježíšovi a o z mrtvých vstání vypravoval. 19I popadše jej, vedli ho do Areopágu, a řekli jemu: Můžeme-li věděti, jaké jest to učení nové, kteréž vypravuješ? 20Nebo nové jakési věci vkládáš v uši naše, protož chceme věděti, co by to bylo. 21(Aténští zajisté všickni, i ti, kteříž tu byli hosté, k ničemuž jinému tak hotovi nebyli, než praviti neb slyšeti něco nového.)

UBG 18Wtedy niektórzy z filozofów epikurejskich i stoickich spierali się z nim. Jedni mówili: Co chce powiedzieć ten nowinkarz? A inni: Zdaje się, że jest zwiastunem obcych bogów. Głosił im bowiem Jezusa i zmartwychwstanie.
—Chyba głosi jakieś nowe bóstwa—mówili drudzy, Paweł mówił bowiem o Jezusie i zmartwychwstaniu. 19Zabrali więc go na Areopag i spytali: —Możesz nam wyjaśnić, jaką to nową religię głosisz? 20Wkładasz nam bowiem do głowy jakieś niesłychane historie. 21A wszyscy Ateńczycy i przybysze poświęcają większość czasu na dyskusje i słuchanie nowych wieści.

KJV (66 books) 18Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection. 19And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is? 20For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. 21(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
AFINT (Exp US) 18Some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers engaged him in discussion. Some asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be promoting foreign deities”—because he was proclaiming the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. 19They took hold of him and brought him to the Areopagus council, asking, “May we understand what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20You are introducing some strange notions to our hearing, and we want to know what these things mean.” 21(Now all the Athenians and the foreigners residing there spent their time doing nothing except talking about or listening to the latest ideas.)
AFINT (Lit US) 18And even some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were disputing with him. And some were saying, “What does this babbler intend to say?” But others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection. 19And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is, which is being spoken by you? 20For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we wish to know what these things mean.” 21Now all the Athenians and the foreigners who resided there would dedicate their time to nothing else than telling something or hearing something novel.
ASV 18And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection. 19And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee? 20For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. 21(Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)
BSB 18Some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also began to debate with him. Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was proclaiming the good news of Jesus and the resurrection. 19So they took Paul and brought him to the Areopagus, where they asked him, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20For you are bringing some strange notions to our ears, and we want to know what they mean.” 21Now all the Athenians and foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing more than hearing and articulating new ideas.
DRA 18And certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics disputed with him; and some said: What is it, that this word sower would say? But others: He seemeth to be a setter forth of new gods; because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection. 19And taking him, they brought him to the Areopagus, saying: May we know what this new doctrine is, which thou speakest of? 20For thou bringest in certain new things to our ears. We would know therefore what these things mean. 21(Now all the Athenians, and strangers that were there, employed themselves in nothing else, but either in telling or in hearing some new thing.)
EMTV 18And also some of the Epicurean and of the Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. And some were saying, “What does this seed-picker wish to say?” But others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign deities,” because he was preaching the good news of Jesus and the resurrection. 19And taking hold of him, they brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new doctrine is you speak about? 20For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we desire to know what these things might mean.” 21Now all the Athenians and the strangers staying there as visitors spent their time in nothing other than to say or to hear some new thing.
FBV 18Some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also argued with him. “What is he going on about?” they wondered. Others concluded, “He seems to be teaching about some foreign gods,” because he was speaking about Jesus and the resurrection. 19So they took him to the Areopagus, and asked him, “Please tell us about this new teaching that you're promoting. 20We're hearing from you things that sound odd to us, so we'd like to know what they mean.” 21(All the Athenians, including foreigners who lived there, spent their whole time doing nothing except explaining or listening to something new.)
GNV 18Then certaine Philosophers of the Epicures, and of the Stoickes, disputed with him, and some sayde, What will this babler say? Others sayde, He seemeth to be a setter forth of straunge gods (because hee preached vnto them Iesus, and the resurrection.) 19And they tooke him, and brought him into Mars streete, saying, May we not know, what this newe doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is? 20For thou bringest certaine strange thinges vnto our eares: we woulde knowe therefore, what these things meane. 21For all the Athenians, and strangers which dwelt there, gaue them selues to nothing els, but either to tell, or to heare some newes.
LSV 18And certain of the Epicurean and of the Stoic philosophers, were meeting together to see him, and some were saying, “What would this seed picker wish to say?” And others, “He seems to be an announcer of strange demons”; because he proclaimed to them Jesus and the resurrection as good news, 19having also taken him, they brought [him] to the Areopagus, saying, “Are we able to know what this new teaching [is] that is spoken by you, 20for you bring certain strange things to our ears? We resolve, then, to know what these things would wish to be”; 21and all Athenians, and the strangers sojourning, for nothing else were at leisure but to say something, and to hear some newer thing.
NIV (US) 18A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to debate with him. Some of them asked, “What is this babbler trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be advocating foreign gods.” They said this because Paul was preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. 19Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? 20You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we would like to know what they mean.” 21(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.)
NMV 18Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans [a helper: defender], and of the Stoicks [of the portico], encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seems to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Yeshua [God is Salvation], and the resurrection. 19And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus [martial peak (high council)], saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof youi speak, [is]? 20For youi brings certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. 21(For all the Athenians [uncertainty] and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
OJB 18Also some of the Apikoros (Epicurean) and Stoic philosophers started conversing with Rav Sha'ul, and some were saying, What might this babbler wish to say? And others said, He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign deities. They said this because of what Rav Sha'ul was proclaiming: Yehoshua and the Techiyas HaMesim. 19And having taken hold of Rav Sha'ul, they brought him to the Areopagus, saying, Are we able to have da'as of what this new teaching is, which is being spoken by you? 20For some surprising things you bring to our hearing. Therefore, we desire to have da'as of what these things mean. 21Now all the Athenians and the visiting foreigners and tourists in Athens used to spend time doing nothing but shmoozing about the latest novelty in the news.
RV 18And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

T4T 18Paul met some teachers who liked to talk about what people should believe. People called some of them Epicureans and they called others Stoics. They told Paul what they believed, and they asked him what he believed. Then some of them said to one another, “This ignorant person is just talking nonsense [RHQ]!” Others said, “We(exc) think that he is teaching people about ◄foreign gods/new gods that we (exc) have not heard about►.” They said that because Paul was telling them that Jesus had died and had become alive again afterwards. They had not heard that message before. 19So they took Paul to the place where the city council met. When they arrived there, they said to Paul, “Please tell us, what is this new message that you (sg) are teaching people? 20You are teaching some things that startle us (exc), so we want to know what they mean.” 21They said that, because the people of Athens and also the people from other regions who lived there continually talked about what was new to them, or they listened to others tell what was new.
WEB (US) 18Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were conversing with him. We want to know therefore what these things mean.” 21Now all the Athenians and the strangers living there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.
