Pode ser entendido que, por causa da natureza imutável de Deus, os descendentes de Jacó não foram destruídos. No entanto, no contexto, parece mais provável que Deus esteja dizendo: “Eu não mudei, e vocês também não mudaram — continuam como o seu antepassado Jacó, que também foi enganador…”. A palavra usada pode significar tanto “terminar, no sentido de ser destruído”, quanto simplesmente “cessar.” Nm 23:19
