Pro Proverbs, chapter Proverbs of Solomon, chapter 9
Wisdom’s Invitation
Wisdom has built her house,
She has carved out her seven pillars;1Ti 3:15; Heb 3:6; Rev 3:12
She has 9:2 Lit slaughtered her slaughterprepared her food, she has mixed her wine;
She has also set her table;
She has sent out her attendants, she calls out
From the tops of the heights of the city:Luk 14:16
“Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!”
To him who lacks 9:4 Lit heartunderstanding she says,Mat 11:25; 1Co 1:27
“Come, eat of my food
And drink of the wine I have mixed.Jhn 6:48; Isa 55:1
“9:6 Or Abandon the naiveAbandon your foolishness and live,
And proceed in the way of understanding.”Tit 2:12
¶One who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself,
And one who rebukes a wicked person gets 9:7 Lit a blemishinsults for himself.
Do not rebuke a scoffer, or he will hate you;
Rebuke a wise person and he will love you.Pro 15:12; Mat 7:6
Give instruction to a wise person and he will become still wiser;
Teach a righteous person and he will increase his insight.Pro 27:6
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.Pro 1:7
For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.Pro 10:27
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you alone will 9:12 Lit bearsuffer from it.
¶9:13 Or A foolish womanA woman of foolishness is boisterous,
She has a lack of understanding and knows nothing.
She sits at the doorway of her house,
On a seat by the high places of the city,
Calling to those who pass by,
Who are going straight on their paths:
“Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,”
And to him who lacks 9:16 Lit heartunderstanding she says,
“Stolen water is sweet;
And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”Pro 20:17
But he does not know that the 9:18 Lit departed spiritsdead are there,
That her guests are in the depths of Sheol.Pro 7:27
