The LORD Has Chosen Zion

A song of ascents.

O LORD, remember on behalf of David

all the hardships he endured,Neh 13:14

how he swore an oath to the LORD,

and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

“I will not enter my house

or get into my bed,2Sa 7:2; 1Ki 8:17

I will not give sleep to my eyes

or slumber to my eyelids,Pro 6:4

until I find a place for the LORD,

a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.(a)132:5 LXX for the God of Jacob; see Acts 7:46.”Act 7:46

We heard that the ark was in Ephrathah;(b)132:6 Literally Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah

we found it in the fields of Jaar.1Sa 7:1

Let us go to His dwelling place;

let us worship at His footstool.Psa 18:6

Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place,

You and the ark of Your strength.2Ch 6:41

May Your priests be clothed with righteousness,

and Your saints shout for joy.

For the sake of Your servant David,

do not reject Your anointed one.2Ch 6:42

The LORD swore an oath to David,

a promise He will not revoke:

“One of your descendants

I will place on your throne.(c)132:11 Literally “From the fruit of your body I will set (one) on your throne.Cited in Acts 2:302Sa 7:12; 1Ki 8:25; 2Ch 6:16; Psa 89:4; Luk 1:55; Act 2:30

If your sons keep My covenant

and the testimony I will teach them,

then their sons will also sit on your throne

forever and ever.”

For the LORD has chosen Zion;

He has desired it for His home:1Ki 9:3

“This is My resting place forever and ever;

here I will dwell, for I have desired this home.1Ki 8:13

I will bless her with abundant provisions;

I will satisfy her poor with bread.Psa 37:19; Psa 111:5

I will clothe her priests with salvation,

and her saints will sing out in joy.

There I will make a horn grow for David;

I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one.1Sa 2:10; Mal 3:1; Luk 1:69

I will clothe his enemies with shame,

but the crown upon him will gleam.”Psa 35:26
