Ordningen i varje par visar att leden illustrerar själ och tankar och märgen i det inre ande och uppsåt. På samma sätt som leden är rörlig är själen ombytlig och de känslosamma tankarna föränderliga. Och liksom märgen producerar blodkroppar inuti den fasta benstommen och är källan till liv, se 3 Mos 17:11, så utgör människans ande hennes inre liv. En människas innersta inställning och djupa övertygelse föder hjärtats uppsåt.]
