Det betyder i så fall att det rent konkret tog tre dagar att vandra runt staden. Den inre stadsmuren var 12 kilometer lång och som mest menar arkeologerna idag att det har bott ca 200 000 människor i staden, alltså ännu fler än Jona anger. Jona besökte den något decennium innan staden blev som allra störst under kung Sanheribs styre (704-681 f.Kr.), se 2 Kung 18:13; 2 Krön 32; Jes 37:37.]
