[I ett torrt klimat är tillförlitlig vattentillförsel livsavgörande. Troligtvis är det ett dadelträd som avses, se Jer 17:8. Dessa var (och är fortfarande) vanliga i Jeriko och Jordandalen. Det finns två ord för att plantera i hebreiskan. Det ena betyder att så ett frö, det andra är att flytta en planta och omplantera den. Det senare ordet används här! I följande vers växlar psalmen från att ha beskrivit en rättfärdig man till att beskriva de ogudaktiga. Det finns en litterär poäng med att den rättfärdige beskrivs i singular, medan de ogudaktiga är många och beskrivs i plural. Jesus sa att vägen som leder till fördärvet är bred och många går på den, det krävs ett aktivt val för att leva rättfärdigt, se Matt 7:13-14. Jesus säger att han är vägen, se Joh 14:6. Oavsett omständigheter kan den rättfärdige grönska. Frukten behöver inte forceras fram, utan kommer i rätt tid då det är skördetid.]
