SNC Ve víře požehnal Izák svým synům Jákobovi a Ezauovi; on totiž věřil, že se uskuteční, co bylo zaslíbeno. Jákob měl pak dvanáct synů, z nichž nejznámější je Josef. Bratři se ho zbavili tím, že jej bez vědomí otce prodali do Egypta. Po počátečních nesnázích se tam nakonec stal místodržícím. V této vysoké funkci se dal bratřím poznat a v době hladu pozval svého otce k sobě do Egypta.
