Må nu Herren leda era hjärtan

in i Guds kärlek [den som är rättfärdig, osjälvisk och utgivande]

och in i den Smordes (Messias, Kristi) uthållighet [den ståndaktighet som han hade när han härdade ut och förblev kvar under sin börda].

[Bildspråket med löpning och steg fortsätter från vers 1 – ordet ”leda” används om ”väg” (Luk 1:79) och ”fötter” (1 Thess 3:11). Grekiskan har här den ovanligare optativa verbformen i önskan om att Gud ska leda: ”Herren styre”. En önskan om att kunna förstå Guds kärlek, men också att det skulle resultera i kärlek gentemot andra människor. Sista frasen skulle även kunna tolkas som en önskan om uthållighet i väntan på Jesu återkomst. I denna vers kan man läsa in treenigheten: den helige Ande leder oss in i Faderns kärlek och in i Sonens uthållighet.]
