Redan 30-60 dagar efter sådd kan man skörda senapsfrön från senapsbusken, som då är några decimeter hög. Busken kan växa vidare och bli 2-3 meter hög, men då ger den inte längre någon skörd. Här kan finnas en antydan om att Guds rike ger god frukt i de små sammanhangen. Surdegen är genomgående en bild på falska läror i Bibeln. Mitt i det växande Gudsriket finns det också ondska.
