SKB De samlade dem på den plats som på hebreiska heter Harmagedon. [Den första delen av Harmagedon, ordet ”har”, betyder kulle på hebreiska. Har-Magedon är alltså det hebreiska namnet på den forntida staden Megiddo vid sydvästra Jisreelslätten. Staden var strategiskt viktig, eftersom den kontrollerade handelsvägen Via Maris som förband Egypten med Damaskus och Orienten. Vid staden ligger inloppet till den enda bergspassagen som är framkomlig med häst och vagn. Den stormakt som hade kontroll över Megiddo styrde världshandeln. Under Gamla testamentets tid skedde många strider här, se Dom 5:19; 2 Kung 23:29.
