KJV (66 books) 17Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. 20When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper. 21For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
KJV (Cambridge) 17Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that you come together not for the better, but for the worse.
AFINT (Exp US) 17Now, in giving these instructions, I do not commend you, because you gather together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For in the first place, when you gather together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you, and I partly believe it. 19For factions must indeed exist among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you. 20Therefore, when you assemble in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper. 21For in eating, each one takes his own meal first; and one person remains hungry, while another becomes drunk.
AFINT (Lit US) 17Now, as I issue this directive, I do not commend you, because you come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19For it is necessary also that factions exist among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you. 20Therefore, when you come together in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper. 21For in eating, each one takes his own supper first; and this one is hungry, and that one is drunk.
ASV 17But in giving you this charge, I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better but for the worse. 18For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and I partly believe it. 19For there must be also factions among you, that they that are approved may be made manifest among you. 20When therefore ye assemble yourselves together, it is not possible to eat the Lord’s supper: 21for in your eating each one taketh before other his own supper; and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
BSB 17In the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good. 18First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved. 20Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat. 21For as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk.
DRA 17Now this I ordain: not praising you, that you come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For first of all I hear that when you come together in the church, there are schisms among you; and in part I believe it. 19For there must be also heresies: that they also, who are approved, may be made manifest among you. 20When you come therefore together into one place, it is not now to eat the Lord’s supper. 21For every one taketh before his own supper to eat. And one indeed is hungry and another is drunk.
EMTV 17Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, because you are not coming together for the better, but for the worse. 18For first of all, when you come together in church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19For there must also be sects among you, in order that those who are approved may become recognized among you. 20Therefore when you assemble in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper. 21For when you eat, each one takes first his own supper, and one goes hungry and another is drunk!
FBV 17Now in giving you the instructions that follow I can't commend you, because when you meet together you cause more harm than good! 18First of all, I hear that when you have church meetings that you are split into different factions, and I believe there's some truth to this. 19Of course such splits among you must happen so those who are genuine can prove themselves by their evidence! 20When you meet together you're not really celebrating the Lord's Supper at all. 21Some want to eat first before everyone else, leaving others hungry. Still others get drunk.
GNV 17Nowe in this that I declare, I prayse you not, that ye come together, not with profite, but with hurt. 18For first of all, when ye come together in the Church, I heare that there are dissentions among you: and I beleeue it to be true in some part. 19For there must be heresies euen among you, that they which are approoued among you, might be knowen. 20When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eate the Lords Supper. 21For euery man when they should eate, taketh his owne supper afore, and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
LSV 17And declaring this, I give no praise, because yöu do not come together for the better, but for the worse; 18for first, indeed, coming together in an assembly, I hear of divisions being among yöu, and I partly believe [it], 19for it is also necessary for sects to be among yöu, that those approved may become visible among yöu; 20yöu, then, coming together at the same place—it is not to eat the LORD’s Dinner; 21for each takes his own dinner before in the eating, and one is hungry, and another is drunk;
NASB 17Now in giving this next instruction I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part I believe it. 19For there also have to be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you. 20Therefore when you come together it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper, 21for when you eat, each one takes his own supper first; and one goes hungry while another gets drunk. NASB 2020
NIV (US) 17In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good. 18In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. 19No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God’s approval. 20So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, 21for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers. As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk.
NMV 17Now in this that I declare [unto you] I praise [you] not, that you2f come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For first of all, when you2f come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. 20When you2f come together therefore into one place, [this] is not to eat the Lord - Kurios’s supper. 21For in eating every one takes before [other] his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
OJB 17But in giving the divrei Torah that follows I give no commendation, because when you assemble as the shul of Moshiach, it is not for the better that you assemble, but for the worse. 18Ershtins (first of all), indeed when you come together as the kehillah I hear there exist machlokot (divisions) and schisms among you, and partly I believe it. 19For it is necessary also for kitot (sects) of minut (heresy), of kefirah (heresy, denial) to be among you that also the approved ones may become manifest among you. 20Therefore, your farbrengen gatherings in one kahal (community) are not for the purpose of having Moshiachʼs Tish. 21For each one rushes ahead with his own seudah (meal). One is hungerik (hungry), one has passed out in his schnapps.
RV 17But in giving you this charge, I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better but for the worse. 18For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and I partly believe it. 19For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. 20When therefore ye assemble yourselves together, it is not possible to eat the Lord’s supper: 21for in your eating each one taketh before other his own supper; and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
TCENT 17Now in giving the following instructions, I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18For in the first place, I hear that there are divisions among you when you come together as a church, and in some part I believe it. 19For there must be factions among you to show which of you are approved. 20Now when you come together, it is not to eat the Lord's supper. 21For when you eat, some of you eat your own supper without waiting for others. So one person is hungry while another gets drunk.
T4T 17Now I want to tell you about some other things. I do not praise you about them, because whenever you believers meet together, good things do not happen. Instead, bad things happen. 18First of all, people have told me that when you gather together as a group to worship God, you divide into groups that are hostile to each other. To some extent I believe that is true. 19It seems that you must divide into groups that despise each other in order that it might be clear/evident which people among you God approves of! 20When you gather together, you [IRO] eat the meal that you say is to remember the death of the Lord Jesus for us. 21But what happens when you eat is that each person eats his own meal before he thinks about sharing his food with anyone else. As a result, when the meal is over, some people are still hungry and others are drunk! So it is not a meal that honors the Lord.
WEB (US) 17But in giving you this command I don’t praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse. 18For first of all, when you come together in the assembly, I hear that divisions exist among you, and I partly believe it. 19For there also must be factions among you, that those who are approved may be revealed among you. 20When therefore you assemble yourselves together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat. 21For in your eating each one takes his own supper first. One is hungry, and another is drunken.
WEB (UK) 17But in giving you this command I don’t praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse. 18For first of all, when you come together in the assembly, I hear that divisions exist amongst you, and I partly believe it. 19For there also must be factions amongst you, that those who are approved may be revealed amongst you. 20When therefore you assemble yourselves together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat. 21For in your eating each one takes his own supper first. One is hungry, and another is drunken.
