Ta dig [personligen] till denna tjänare (ordagrant: någon som ska vara till nytta – hebr. sachan) [men som visade sig inte vara till nytta], till Shevna, som är över huset [överförvaltaren som ansvarade för palatset och/eller templet i Jerusalem]. [Frasen ”som var över huset” (hebr. asher al habajit) beskriver en högt uppsatt post. Ordet hus kan betyda allt från ett vanligt hushåll till ett kungligt palats eller ett tempel. Under det delade kungariket används frasen för en hög post både i syd- och nordriket, se 1 Kung 4:6; 18:3. Ofta var det den högsta positionen i palatset, se Jes 36:3; 37:2. Positionen hölls ibland av kungens son, se 2 Krön 26:21. Posten motsvarar den franska titeln maior domus som kan översättas hovmästare eller husmästare. På slutet av 1800-talet hittade den franske arkeologen Charles Clermont-Ganneau en grav i utkanten av Davids stad vid Siloam med inskriptionen: ”graven till … jahu asher al habajit”. Början av namnet hade tagits bort. Graven är daterad till 600-talet f.Kr. Så sent som 2019 hittades i utgrävningar i Jerusalem en stämpel med inskriptionen: Adonai asher al habajit som betyder ”Herren, som är över huset”. Shevna var en av kung Hiskias tjänare. Han verkade både som sekreterare (2 Kung 18:18, 26) och på posten ”över huset”. Den medeltida rabbinen Rashi tolkar huset som templet, och i så fall är han överstepräst, men troligare är att det är palatset och kungahuset som han förestår.
