Nu när Guds folk blivit märkta med Guds sigill i pannan fortsätter serien med basunstötarna. De första fyra är ”naturliga” i det att de påverkar jorden, haven, sötvattnet och himlakropparna. De tre sista drabbar mänskligheten mer direkt. Det finns en parallell till skapelsen i Första Moseboken. Då skapades himlar, hav och jord. Nu upplöses skapelsen. Intressant är att det sker i omvänd ordning. Först påverkas en tredjedel av jordens växtlighet, sedan haven och sötvattnen och sist himlarna: Basun 1 – 1/3 av växtligheten brinner upp, se Upp 8:7; 1 Mos 1:29. Basun 2 & 3 – 1/3 av haven och floderna påverkas, se Upp 8:8-11; 1 Mos 1:20. Basun 4 – 1/3 av himlakropparna förmörkas, se Upp 8:12; 1 Mos 1:14-15.
