SKB ”Jag har kommit för att tända en eld (kasta eld) på jorden – jag önskar så att den redan brann! [I det naturliga ger elden värme och ljus, men samtidigt förtärs också materialet som brinner. Elden förädlar metaller så att bara det som är äkta består. I Bibeln används eld som en bild på Guds helighet, dom och dopet i den helige Ande. Att Jesus önskar att elden brann syftar antagligen på flera saker – att prövningens eld skulle förädla de troende att leva helt överlåtna till honom, att pingstdagen redan var här så att de troende var brinnande i den helige Ande och var klara ljus i en mörk värld.
