[Den förste (hebr. rishon) har sin rot i ordet för huvud. Den siste (hebr. acharonim) står i plural! Därför betyder det att han är den evigt siste, det kan aldrig någonsin komma något eller någon efter honom. I den hebreiska texten finns, centralt mellan den förste och den siste, också ordet et (skrivs på hebreiska med första bokstaven alfa och sista tav). Det är en partikel som aldrig översätts, men som motsvarar grekiskans alfa och omega, se 1 Mos 1:1. Här står uttrycket den förste och den siste alltså två gånger i samma mening. I hebreiskan betyder det att detta är en absolut sanning som är kompromisslös och aldrig kan förändras.]
